FivePanelFloating and glass sidebar, header and footer
The sidebar, the header and the page footer can now float off the edge of the page as rounded cards, each with its own corner radius. They can also be glass, and the sidebar and header can stay on screen while the page scrolls.
In this update
- A new Style option on the sidebar, header and footer: Docked or Floating
- Floating parts stand 12px off the page edge with a border and a soft shadow
- Corners from 0 to 32px, set separately for each part
- Glass: a see-through background with a blur, so the wallpaper shows through
- Stay in view keeps the sidebar and header on screen while the page scrolls
Until now the sidebar, the header and the page footer always ran edge to edge against the page. That suits a staff tool, but a lot of community panels want something lighter. Each of the three can now float as its own rounded card.
How to turn it on
Click the sidebar, the header or the footer on the canvas to open its settings. Under Look, set Style to Floating. A Corners field appears; it takes 0 to 32px and defaults to 14.
- the part moves 12px in from the page edge and gets a border and a soft shadow
- your widgets move over to make room, so nothing ends up underneath it
- the sidebar keeps the width you set; the gap is added around it
Glass and Stay in view
The same Look section has two more switches:
- Glass makes the part see-through with a blur, so a wallpaper or the page scrolling underneath shows through. It works docked or floating, on all three parts.
- Stay in view keeps the sidebar or the header on screen while a long page scrolls. A sidebar that stays in view is never taller than the screen, so the signed-in user and the online dot at its bottom stay visible. Try it in Preview; the editor itself does not scroll.
Mix and match
The setting is per part, so a floating sidebar can sit next to a docked header, or the other way round. Background, current-page style, density and side all work as before, including a floating sidebar on the accent colour or on the right.
FiveAI knows the new options too, so you can ask it for a floating sidebar with rounder corners.
