Installing the database agent is now one command and a clear guide

The install step in Settings › Data is now a short numbered guide with the full command, and the Windows installer asks for Administrator rights itself instead of failing with "Access to the path is denied".

In this update

  1. One PowerShell command installs the agent, asks for your database address and starts the Windows service
  2. Run from a normal PowerShell window, the installer opens an Administrator one after the Windows prompt
  3. The guide shows where the database address is: the mysql_connection_string line in server.cfg
  4. The Linux command now asks for the database address and finishes the setup, instead of stopping after the download
  5. A "Something went wrong?" section covers the common errors and how to check the connection

The agent is the small program that connects your server's database to your panel. Installing it was the step owners got stuck on most, so it now takes one command and a guide you can follow without the docs.

The guide

Open Settings › Data and press Connect a database. The install step now opens on Windows, next to Linux and Docker, and walks through it in order:

  • open PowerShell as Administrator
  • paste the command, shown in full with a Copy button
  • paste your database address when it asks. It is on the mysql_connection_string line of your server.cfg
  • come back to the page, which moves on by itself when the agent connects

Windows

The old command stopped with "Access to the path 'FivePanel' is denied" when PowerShell was not running as Administrator. The installer now checks first. From a normal window it opens an Administrator one after the Windows prompt and carries on there. It then installs the agent, tests the database and the token, and installs and starts the service, so the agent also comes back after a restart.

Linux

The Linux command used to install the agent and then stop, because it had the token but no database address. It now asks for the address in the terminal and finishes the setup, service included.

When something goes wrong

Under the guide, Something went wrong? lists the errors owners hit most and the fix for each. fivepanel-agent test checks the database and the connection to FivePanel and says which one fails.
